The Chair Every Sports Parent Will Actually Leave in the Car
Every weekend, thousands of Australian families load the car before sunrise. Sports bags, water bottles, towels, hats, sunscreen and snacks are packed into every available space before heading off to football, netball, swimming, athletics, rugby, cricket or another busy day of junior sport.
If you’re a sports parent, you know the routine well.
You carry everything from the car to the sidelines, often several times throughout the day. Some weekends involve moving from one sporting venue to another, while others mean spending eight or ten hours beside a field or swimming pool.
For our family, one item became more frustrating than all the others.
The camping chair.
It was bulky, awkward to carry and always seemed to be the last thing you wanted to drag across a car park or sporting complex. We even found ourselves putting wheels on traditional camping chairs just to make them easier to move.
It helped.
But it also made us realise the real problem wasn’t how we carried the chair.
It was the chair itself.
Where Witness Began
Witness didn’t begin with the idea of designing a completely new chair.
It began with a simple question.
Surely there had to be a better option.
For years, our weekends revolved around supporting our daughter Jamie at sporting events. Like so many Australian families, we spent countless hours on the sidelines watching her compete while carrying everything needed for the day.
At the same time, years of spinal injuries, lower back surgery and cervical fusion surgery had changed the way I looked at outdoor equipment. Carrying heavy camping chairs across sporting fields wasn’t getting any easier, and my wife often found herself carrying the chair along with sports bags, towels and everything else that comes with family weekends.
Instead of accepting that bulky camping chairs were simply part of the experience, we decided to start looking for something better.
That search eventually became the Witness Compact Chair.
Two Years of Research and Testing
Our journey wasn’t about inventing a chair from scratch.
It was about finding the best compact chair available and making it even better.
Over almost two years, we researched, tested and compared chairs from around the world. We looked closely at how they folded, how comfortable they were, how they carried, how durable the materials felt and how well they stood up to regular outdoor use.
Eventually, we partnered with a manufacturer licensed to produce a proven patented hub system that had already demonstrated excellent strength and reliability.
That gave us confidence we were starting with a solid foundation.
From there, we worked closely with the manufacturer to refine the product to our own specifications.
We upgraded the fabric to durable 210D four-grid ripstop material, improved the cosmetic finish, added practical side storage pockets, incorporated an integrated cup holder and focused on countless small details that make a difference every time the chair is used.
None of those changes reinvented the chair.
Together, they created a better Witness chair.

Why Compact Matters
A chair only helps if it’s with you.
